Does anyone remember the days when you had to bring a real paperback book on the airplane with you?
If you were reading a book you had to bring that book with you everywhere. And if you forgot it you were out of luck. Also if you finished it you had nothing else to do until you picked up a new one from the library or book store!
Are books stores even thing still? Or did the movie You've Got Mail start the beginning of the end? Well, regardless, I love to read.
I will choose reading over TV or movies. Pretty sure I've told you guys that before.
So when Kindle first came out, and I may be dating myself in age here, but when it first came out it felt like Christmas. At my fingertips was a whole library. For a speed reader like myself, it was magic.
I could go from one book to another. Ultimate convenience. The digital age has revolutionized the way we live. The New Normal if you will.
The way we work, the way we study, even our daily interaction with others. And although I'm not a fan of every kind of technology and the distance it can cause, I am a fan of the ebook. And as a surgical resident you should be too.
It gives us a way to study, learn and grow no matter where we are--from an on-call room to a subway ride, we have the ability to build our career and to educate ourselves. We can make our time worthwhile with the convenience of a download.
